  2. Dahlquist DQ 20. Very good sound. Not fussy about room placement. I should look to buy them back just to see if my memory is playing tricks on me.

  3. Ohm C2 . Maybe not the best speakers, but I did like them the most, as they were the first speakers I repaired and refoamed.

  4. Quad esl57, have been in the family from new, very open sound. I play classical and jazz mainly, some acoustic. would never part with them.

  5. Heard the IMF tls 80's once and have been looking for a pair ever since. I have a feeling they'll become increasingly expensive - in early 2013 a pair went for £200 on ebay, which I would have snapped up if I'd have known. The most realistic beautiful bass i've ever heard, and crisp clear highs. I'm wasn't too sure about the mids but that might just be the crossovers, or the small room they were in.

    1. Hi there Silas, the 80s are a cracking set of speakers indeed, my only criticism would be a slight lack of crispness to the mid. It is a shame I sold mine because like you say the prices for these bad boys just keep on rising!

  7. Celestion SL600si - grew up loving KLH 6's and was forever biased (illogically, I know!) towards sealed box designs. The Celestions of this period had that same tight bottom end (which I add an REL sub to) and project a beautiful soundstage with precise imaging.

  8. I loved/love my own speakers. I threw them together about 35 years ago. Each speaker contains one 12" woofer, four tweeters, and two mid-range speakers. It is a sealed box design.

Eventually, due to age, the rubber rim that attaches the paper cone to the outer 12" speaker metal frame, turned to pure dust.

For less than $20, I purchased rubber outer ring replacements and repaired both 12" woofers. After that, the speakers came back to life and are still living to this day.

Who would have thought that speakers could last this long ?
